The Payments Council - set for new m-payments service in 2014

The Payments Council plan to the launch a new mobile payments service in spring 2014, to help mobile payments to become mainstream. The new service will enable consumers to make secure payments directly to or from an account without the need to disclose the sort code and account number, by simply using a mobile phone number as a proxy.

Unexplained losses at Post Office - Fault of accounting system?

After several years of continued pressure from campaign groups about their accounting system, the Post Office has been forced into an investigation of its computer system. The system has been named in a number of false accounting cases by sub-postmasters, some of which resulting in a custodial sentence. At least one case involving a long-standing member of staff in his 60s.

GlaxoSmithKline - accused of boosting its own profits at suppliers expense

The Forum of Private Business has put GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) into its ‘Hall of Shame’ along with other large corporates for increasing supplier payment times from 60 days - which could mean some suppliers having to wait up to 90 days to be paid.

E-invoicing offers revolutionary results

As reported in The Guardian today, full adoption of e-invoicing by the government could result in up to £28bn of benefits, in return for a relatively small level of investment. In this age of austerity, e-invoicing is simply too good an opportunity to miss. The question is, how long will it take for the Government to recognise this and drive the changes forward? Despite many recent improvements, the civil service remains bureaucratic and relatively slow to accept change.
