Belgium government pilot receives first UBL e-invoice

Tuesday 22nd July, 2014

Minister Olivier Chastel and the Secretary of State, Hendrik Bogaert, of the Belgian Federal Authorities have received their first electronic invoice this week.

The e-invoice (non-PDF) was delivered to the federal e-invoicing platform using the UBL standard. By using e-invoicing it will significantly reduce the processing time in terms of efficiency, both for the government and the supplier.

E-invoices received via a centralised platform are automatically integrated into 'Fedcom', the accounting system of the Belgian Federal Public Services.

This milestone marks the official launch of the pilot phase of this project enabling suppliers to digitally transmit their invoices to three Federal Public Services (FPS Budget and Management Control, fedict and Chancellery). On completion of the pilot phase and after an evaluation, the project will be gradually rolled-out to other federal departments and suppliers.

To make life easier for suppliers, a protocol was signed with the regions to enable businesses to use the same single platform.
