Tesco has announced that it has dropped supplier, Silvercrest on the back of the horse meat scandal. Tesco has said that Silvercrest took the supply from a company which did not feature on their list of recommended suppliers. In what Tesco called a "serious breadown of trust", the company had no option but to sever the ties with their long standing supplier.

It was also revealed that the meat did not come from the UK or Ireland as particularly specified by Tesco in the production of its frozen beef burgers, raising additional issues around provenance and health. It's likely that the situation will again highlight the constant downward pressure on prices faced by suppliers and whether this had any bearing on the situation with Silvercrest and Tesco.
