Government gets serious about eInvoicing in public sector

Tuesday 6th May, 2014

It seems that the Government is getting serious about encouraging the growth of eInvoicing adoption across the UK, in particular when it comes to the public sector. Last week Francis Maude, the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General, gave a very positive and comprehensive speech on the benefits of electronic invoicing within the public sector, and how efficiencies in the back office are vital to HM Government going forward.

The speech came at the launch of a new paper; eInvoicing - The Next Steps to Digital Government during a meeting of more than 50 eInvoicing experts at Westminster. The Minister’s speech was an endorsement of the report, and everyone’s efforts within the UK National e-Invoicing Forum. The report details how by changing to a more streamlined process  across the public sector via eInvoicing, more than £2bn a year could be saved.

The new report was sponsored by Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage, who said:

“The report is a clear indication that the UK’s public sector cannot ignore the benefits of electronic invoicing. If nothing is done we will fall behind other countries and the consumer markets here in the UK. I was delighted the Minister for the Cabinet Office attended and welcomed the report at the launch, which is a clear indication of senior ministerial interest in the benefits of electronic invoicing."
