Is Square set to IPO in 2014?

As shares in Twitter went public yesterday, news surfaced of another potential IPO on the horizon for Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Square, the payments company he founded in 2009 has begun informal discussions with investment bankers, reported to include Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley for an IPO which may come in the new year.

Open Text to buy GXS

Wednesday 6th November, 2013

Open Text has announced that it plans to buy GXS Group for stock and cash worth about $1.17 billion. The purchase is a sizable one for Open Text, which has made a few smaller acquisitions this year.  And with almost 3,000 3,000 employees, GXS will boost Open Text's existing workforce by around 60%.

NAO pushes for more joined-up lending to SMEs

Despite a renewed focus by government on the financing challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), there is scope for the range of funding initiatives currently in place to work as a more unified programme, according to the National Audit Office.

The launch of an independent Business Bank last month, which is due to start operating in 2014 prompted the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) to re-examine the nature of the finance problems facing SMEs. These include a possible need by SMEs by 2017 for an additional £22 billion over and above the finance available to them.

EMEA Outsourcing sees high in Q3 contract value – Index finds

According to Information Services Group (ISG) Outsourcing Index, the third quarter of 2013 results show strong growth in outsourcing contract values in the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region.

The Outsourcing Index, that measures commercial outsourcing contracts with an Annual Contract Value (ACV) of €4 million or more, showed that 176 contracts with a combined value of €2.8 billion were awarded in the region during the third quarter.
