All tied up - global pressures on working capital

A leading report on working captial by EY - Working Capital Management: All Tied Up, has highlighted that the leading 2,000 US and European companies have up to $1.3 trillion of cash unnecessarily tied up - in fact almost 7% of their combined sales. As EY says, during 2012, measuring “true” progress in WC performance may have been made more difficult by the impact of rapidly changing global economic and financial conditions. However, a close analysis reveals major variations both in WC trends and also in the degree of change achieved by different participants in each regional industry.

Cash-on-Tap, contactless 4G card at major UK outlets

UK digital communications company EE, the brand name for the partnership between France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom, revealed plans for the next-generation network (4G) with a range of new plans and services. EE will officially switch on double-speed 4G in twelve UK cities on the 4th July, and the additional services will be launched on 17th July.

£217m overdraft an embarrassment for Eric Pickles

The communities secretary, praised by the Chancellor only last week for his ability to impose spending cuts on local authorities, has himself come under fire after the National Audit Office has uncovered a £217m unauthorised overdraft. Subject to a £20,000 fine from the NAO, the department has been reprimanded for its "poor financial management".
