Barnet Council’s outsourcing plans face judicial review

Barnet Council's New Support and Customer Service Organisation (NSCSO) contract has been delayed until a final judgement on the appeal is reached. The appeal against a High Court decision not to grant a judicial review into the Council's outsourcing plans is to be heard at the beginning of October.

Finance jobs make a come-back, says the APSCo

According to the monthly jobs data report by the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the number of permanent vacancies in the market went up by more than two per cent last month. A similar increase in the number of placements was also recorded - which is the first time this has happened since September 2011.

Finance jobs make a come-back while engineering remains the most resilient of the professional sectors with skill shortages still dominating the picture.

Procurement experts see EU Rules benefitting the public sector

The regulations surrounding buying of goods or services by governments and public bodies in the EU can provide opportunities to make big savings and secure good relationships with suppliers, according to procurement experts Efficio.

In the latest Efficio Viewpoint article, Principal Dappula Wijeyeratne says that on the face of it the regulations appear to go against the basic principles of good procurement – “good healthy debate, fact-based negotiations, rounds of discussions focused on an ever-decreasing price...the very heart of a competitive event.”

London tri-borough agreement set to save millions.

Westminster City Council, Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea are planning to come together to unify IT services over a four year framework. The £1.1bn plan may see 28 other London boroughs joining in. It's an initiative which goes back a couple of years with a February 2011 report entitled "Tri-Borough Proposals report: Bold Ideas for Challenging Times".
